We get information on how to prepare for an approaching storm, but if you use a prosthesis, there are some additional steps you should take to prepare.
If your prosthesis needs to be charged, just like with your other electronics, be sure to charge it before the storm arrives. You may be without power for an extended period of time, so charge up when you can.
If you plan on evacuating the area or staying with family or a friend to ride out the storm, be sure to bring supplies with you, such as prosthetic socks, a spare liner, extra suspension sleeve, any power adapters your prosthesis may need. If you use gels or lubricants with your prosthesis, bring them as well. Remember to bring your medications with you.
If you need us, we always have a practitioner on-call to talk with if you have questions or issues. Our ability to communicate might be limited during a storm, but we are available.
Our office will close as a storm approaches and we can not re-open until local governments lift any curfews and shelter in place orders as well as the office having the needed utilities for us to operate like power and water services. If you have a scheduled appointment and the office is closed due to the storm, we will do our best to reach out prior to the appointment to let you know and reschedule you for the next available appointment when we re-open.
